Do you have a sullen goldfish or a piqued piranha?
They may need the services of Lou Jeanne Cuje, a Camden, N.J., fish medic who does what most traditional doctors have given up long ago: make house calls.
“I get more phone calls from local pond owners. Their fish get sick,” says Cuje, 40, who is studying to become a veterinarian specializing in fish.
Fish medicine, or aquatic veterinary medicine, once meant mainly treating marine mammals. But over the last 20 years, the science has widened its reach to include the diagnosis and treatment of fish.
