So now the Army has decided to cancel its plans to distribute “Made in China” black berets to its forces, apparently over the Navy EP-3 spy plane incident (May 2). Instead, the Army will buy black berets made elsewhere. The earlier complaints from the elite Army Rangers weren’t enough to cancel the program, but the Navy EP-3 incident is. And who is the loser in all of this? That’s right, the American taxpayer. Now we will have two sets of black berets that still upset the Rangers at double the cost to the taxpayers. And just in time for the 226th birthday of the Army on Flag Day, June 14.
