Four Saddleback Players in Tennis Quarterfinals

Four Saddleback players advanced Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Southern California men’s tennis championships at Riverside College.

Sixth-seeded David DiMartino and eighth-seeded Arif Hasan advanced in the singles division. DiMartino and partner Chris Mark and Hasan and Jon Lippert will pair up in the doubles competition, to be played today.

In Orange Empire Conference baseball:

Golden West 7, Fullerton 3--Derek Amundson went four for four, scored two runs and drove in a run for visiting Golden West (15-27, 6-18).

Fullerton sophomore Brian Ziarnick had four hits and finished the season with a 25-game hitting streak, second best in school history.

In the state swimming finals:

Burden sets national record--Micha Burden of Golden West set a national record in the 500-yard freestyle at Solano College in Suisun City.

Burden’s time of 4 minutes 53.01 seconds eclipsed the national mark of 4:53.48 and the state mark of 4:56.09.

Golden West leads after the first of two days with 171 points. Riverside is second (131).

The Golden West men were led by Diogo Yabe, who won the 200 individual medley (1:49.72). The men lead with 134, with Cuesta in second with 126.

Tyler Townsend of Orange Coast won the 50 freestyle in 20.66.
