PREP TRACK AND FIELD

In the Empire League:

Beatty shines--Kennedy’s Kelvin Beatty won the 100 (11.26) and 200 (22.81) and was named top male performer of the meet.

Billy Pittman of El Dorado (800, 1,600) and Mike Hicks of Cypress (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) were also double winners.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra wins--Ava Jones and Jamie Cuthbert-Allen each won two individual events as La Habra edged Troy, 125-121, to capture the Freeway League girls’ championship Thursday at Fullerton College.

Jones had little trouble winning in the 1,600 meters in 5:10.5 and the 3,200 meters in 11:42.8. She also finished third in the 800 and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay squad.

Kianey Givens-Davis led Troy with victories in the shotput (35-7) and the discus (103-3).

With Daniel Siapin winning the long jump and triple jump and Sonora sweeping the relays, the Raiders won the boys’ competition, finishing with 163 points to Troy’s 149.

Siapin’s marks were 21-4 1/2 in the long jump and 44-5 3/4 in the triple jump.

In the Garden Grove League:

Gabaldon, Morton star--Andy Gabaldon of Rancho Alamitos set a meet record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.35 at Bolsa Grande High. He also won the 400 (53.10) and handled the first leg of the winning 1,600 relay team.

Mattye Morton of Garden Grove established a meet record of 26.70 in the 200 meters. She also won the 100 (13.08) and finished second in the long jump (16-2 3/4).

Led by victories in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters by Steve Naughton and Natalie Perkins, Pacifica captured both team titles.

In the Golden West League:

Tustin takes first--Senior Alonso Smith of Tustin won the 800 meters in 1:58.26 and the 1,600 meters in 4:26.22. He also ran 49.7 on the second leg of the winning 1,600-meter relay, as Tustin took the team title at Huntington Beach High with 142 points.

It’s the seventh consecutive league championship for Tustin.
