San Clemente Woman Injured Fighting Fire

A San Clemente woman was hospitalized with facial burns and respiratory distress Thursday after trying to put out a fire that caused about $10,000 damage to her condominium, authorities said.
Sheryl Nevitt, 45, was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo after the 3:40 p.m. blaze in the 200 block of Avenida Adobe, fire officials said. She was treated for first- or second-degree burns to her face, officials said.
The fire apparently started in a corner of the woman’s bedroom as she was taking a nap, officials said. She woke up and tried to fight the fire with a blanket, and that’s what caused the injuries.
