El Camino Real Captures Title, 73-59

El Camino Real High finally got a chance to prove itself as a legitimate girls’ basketball force Friday night, and Aubree Smithey and Karen Shun made sure the Conquistadores took advantage.
Smithey and Shun combined for 38 points and 22 rebounds as top-seeded El Camino Real cruised past Granada Hills, 73-59, in the City Invitational championship game at L.A. Southwest College.
El Camino Real (18-7), which beat its first three playoff opponents by an average of 21 points, held the Highlanders to 36% shooting.
Kelly Beckler scored 12 points but made only three of 20 shots and committed five turnovers for Granada Hills (16-13), which scored six points and had six turnovers in the first quarter.
El Camino Real led, 49-40, at the end of the third quarter and extended its advantage to 70-51, the biggest lead of the game, on a free throw by Julia Stoessel with just over a minute left.
Kelly Patterson of Granada Hills had 13 points and 12 rebounds.
