Brush Fire Backs Up Traffic on Freeways

A Riverside County brush fire on Sunday shut down the Corona Freeway and backed up traffic along the Artesia and Riverside highways into Orange County.
The 20-acre fire was reported at about 2 p.m. near the intersection of the Riverside and Corona freeways, said Melissa Leader, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry in Riverside County. Crews from the Orange County Fire Authority, Corona Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry fought the blaze on the ground and with small planes, she said.
The fire was contained several hours later, Leader added. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
The Corona Freeway was shut down shortly after the fire was reported, leading to a miles-long backup along along the Riverside and Artesia highways. The Corona Freeway was expected to reopen later Sunday night.
