OMAHA — Kris Bennett of Tennessee established a College World Series record with six hits Monday as the Volunteers defeated Georgia, 19-12, in an elimination game before 17,000 at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Tennessee (47-19) will play an elimination game today against USC, which lost to Miami, 4-3, Monday.
Bennett, a senior third baseman, was six for six with a home run and a double. He drove in seven runs and scored four times.
The previous record for hits in a game, shared by 13 players, was five.
Tennessee’s Chris Burke broke an 11-11 tie--and started a five-run eighth-inning rally--with a deep fly ball that Georgia center fielder Kris Edge misplayed into an inside-the-park home run.
