ORLANDO, Fla. — A federal jury on Monday awarded $100,000 to a fired BellSouth Corp. employee.
BellSouth said Jeffrey Bander was fired in 1999 because he failed to follow proper procedures for taking time off.
But Bander, an Orthodox Jew, claimed he was fired for growing a beard and wearing a yarmulke in January 1998 as part of the mourning ritual after his son was killed by a drunk driver.
