Volunteers Sought to Counsel Seniors

The Ventura County Area Agency on Aging seeks volunteers to work with senior citizens who have questions regarding their Medicare, Medigap, HMO and long-term care insurance coverage.
Prospective volunteers should be sensitive to the situation faced by seniors and have a grasp of the problems inherent in insurance issues.
Initial training involves 24 hours of instruction followed by a 10-hour internship.
Counselors who have completed training will be registered with the state Department of Aging, after which they will commit to 40 hours of counseling and 12 hours of additional training annually.
All registered counselors work by appointment at senior centers around the county.
