Recker Leads Iowa Past Illinois

Luke Recker scored a season-high 27 points to lead Iowa to a 78-62 victory over No. 7-ranked Illinois Thursday night at Iowa City, Iowa.
Recker made all ten of his free throws and was three for four on three-point shot attempts in surpassing his previous Iowa best of 26 points against Drake. Recker is a former Indiana player who transferred to Arizona before coming to Iowa.
Dean Oliver had 16 points and Reggie Evans had 15 rebounds for Iowa, 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
Frank Williams scored 22 points for Illinois (12-4, 2-1). No other Illini player scored in double figures, though Cory Bradford did manage to increase his NCAA-record streak of making at least one three-point shot to 80 games.
Iowa’s reserves, who outscored Penn State 30-4 in an 86-85 victory on Saturday, had 25 points to seven for their Illinois counterparts.

In other games: Lynn Greer scored 24 points and Kevin Lyde had 18 as Temple (9-7, 3-0 in the Atlantic 10) rallied from a 12-point deficit early in the second half in a 68-58 victory over Dayton (10-5, 1-1) at Dayton, Ohio. Temple trailed 47-35 with 14:46 remaining but took the lead nearly seven minutes later after a 16-3 run in which Greer and Lyde combined for 11 points. A basket and two free throws by Greer put Temple ahead 59-55 and Lyde made all six of his free throws in the final 1:27 to seal the victory. . . . Terrell Taylor scored 20 points to lead Creighton (11-4, 3-2 in the Missouri Valley) to an 81-72 victory over Indiana State (11-4, 3-1) at Omaha. Both schools reached the NCAA tournament last season, with Indiana State the regular-season champion and Creighton winning the conference tournament.
