Honored Citizens

Re “Medal Honorees a ‘Great Picture of America,’ ” Jan. 9: It seems a true picture of America is millionaire sports figures, an actress and politicians. For their contributions to society they get the Presidential Citizens Medal. A nobody like me who spent four years in the Air Force during the Korean War, 20 years working in industry, worked my way through five years of college while supporting a family, then taught junior high and high school for 18 years gets $250 of my $650 Social Security check taken away by the federal government because I’m collecting a teacher’s pension.

I guess my contributions to society just don’t measure up to those of people like Elizabeth Taylor and Muhammad Ali.
