OXNARD — A man riding a bicycle was struck by a car and seriously injured Sunday night near the intersection of Channel Islands Boulevard and Albany Drive, police said.
The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. Details were sketchy, but Oxnard Police Sgt. Scott Hebert said it appeared to be an accident.
After the collision, the bicyclist and the driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, were transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Hebert said.
The driver was not injured but was required to submit to a blood test because of the seriousness of the accident, authorities said. Hebert said the crash did not appear to be alcohol related.
The bicyclist suffered major injuries and was on a life-support machine late Sunday, Hebert said. The man was not carrying identification, so police officers were unable to identify him, the sergeant added.
