Santa Ana Women Take Over First Place

The Santa Ana women’s basketball team took sole possession of first place in the Orange Empire Conference by defeating visiting Riverside, 74-63, Wednesday.
The Dons (23-6, 12-1) trailed by one at intermission, but outscored Riverside, 46-34, in the second half.
Acheve Barrera had 25 points and 18 rebounds and Terrial Cole and Shyrah Thomas scored 13 points each for Santa Ana. Riverside dropped to 24-9, 11-2.
In another conference game:
Fullerton 60, Cypress 48--Reena Gonzalez scored all of her 18 points in the second half and had 12 rebounds for the host Hornets (3-10, 10-19).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball:
Cypress 85, Fullerton 70--Brandon Erquhart scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half for visiting Cypress (14-14, 6-7), which trailed, 37-33, at halftime.
Levar Grace scored 20 points for Fullerton (20-10, 7-6).
Riverside 98, Santa Ana 90--Zac Fray led Santa Ana (14-15, 5-8) with 22 points and eight rebounds, giving him 615 for his career and breaking the school record of 612 set by Corie Blount. Riverside is 18-13, 9-4.
In nonconference baseball:
Santa Ana 6, Pasadena 2--Tony Alcantar’s three-run double in the fifth inning led host Santa Ana (4-2) to the victory.
