‘Stubborn’ Blaze Forces Sports Store Evacuation

Shoppers and employees fled a fire that broke out Wednesday in a storeroom of a Big 5 Sporting Goods.
Nobody was reported injured in the “very stubborn” blaze at the store on Los Angeles Avenue, a fire department spokesman said.
About 35 firefighters battled the blaze that began at 4 p.m. and was contained to the storeroom, packed with running shoes and other goods. The store’s stock of ammunition, gunpowder and fuel for camping lanterns was in another part of the building, firefighters said.
Several firefighter were to remain on the scene throughout the night.
