Hearn Goes Home Early

Chick Hearn, who underwent open-heart surgery Wednesday, interrupting his string of consecutive Laker games at 3,338, was discharged Sunday from Northridge Hospital Medical Center, ahead of schedule.
The Lakers’ play-by-play announcer will recuperate at home, where he’ll receive daily visits by a nurse. He is expected to be away for six weeks.
Hearn was visited in the hospital Sunday by former Laker player and executive Jerry West and Lon Rosen, a former team publicist and agent for Magic Johnson.
Hearn ate solid food Sunday for the first time since his operation and went for a walk. Walking will be part of his ongoing therapy.
