A jaywalker was struck by a pickup and killed Saturday evening as he tried to cross Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach, police said.
The man was crossing the north lanes of Beach just south of Talbert Avenue at 7:15 p.m. when he was hit, said Huntington Beach police Lt. Ron Burgess.
Police did not disclose the identity of the 47-year-old man, because they had not yet contacted his family.
He flew several feet after the truck hit him and was pronounced dead at the scene from massive internal injuries, Burgess said.
The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk and the area was not well lit, Burgess said.
Witnesses told police that the truck did not appear to be speeding and alcohol was not a factor, Burgess said. Police impounded the truck, a routine in fatal accidents.
