* The United Auto Workers said its members at a Mitsubishi Motor Corp. plant in Normal, Ill., voted to ratify a new four-year contract with the auto maker, ending a dispute that resulted in a strike at the plant Friday. The tentative agreement calls for a lump-sum payment of $1,350 to the workers and an immediate hourly pay raise of $1.52 to adjust for increases in the cost of living. About 2,800 workers represented by the UAW are employed at the plant.
* Weirton Steel Corp. said it will eliminate hundreds of jobs, work out deals with key vendors and reorganize its operations in a move to avoid bankruptcy. The 3,500-member Independent Steelworkers Union has agreed to cut 372 maintenance and production jobs, plus 74 technical and clerical positions, the union’s legal counsel said. Weirton Steel also has agreed to eliminate management positions, but a spokesman would not say how many.
* Otis Elevator Co. said it plans to eliminate up to 385 hourly and 75 salaried positions at its operations in Bloomington, Ind., and about 90 hourly and 30 salaried positions in Mexico City. The company also intends to cease manufacturing at its factory in Mexico City.
