From Times Wire Reports
Portland officials said they shut down drinking fountains in all city schools after tests showed many were contaminated with lead.
Of 40 schools tested, 35 had at least one fountain with lead content above the Environmental Protection Agency’s maximum, school officials said.
State health officials said they found no evidence of any health problems that could be attributable to lead in the water.
High lead intake can damage the nervous system, kidneys and bones and can even cause death.
