Two motorists died in separate accidents on South County roads Tuesday, police said.
In the first incident, a woman was fatally injured about 3:45 p.m. when her car was hit by a truck in a Laguna Hills intersection.
Police said the 78-year-old woman, whose identity was withheld until relatives could be notified, was turning left from Peralta Way onto Ridge Route Drive when her car was struck by a pickup traveling through the intersection on Peralta.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. An investigation of the accident was continuing, police said. No charges were filed against the driver of the truck.
In the second accident, a Ford Contour struck a utility pole on Live Oak Canyon Road near Portola Hills, police said.
The crash happened just east of Santiago Canyon Road near O’Neill Regional Park, said Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, which was investigating.
No other details were available late Tuesday. Teams were working to remove the driver, who had not been identified, from the crumpled wreckage.
