Loara 21, El Modena 13--Using big plays and one long drive, Loara earned its first victory of the season, at El Modena.
Rudy Acosta’s 92-yard kickoff return and quarterback Ryan Gusman’s 34-yard touchdown scramble with 1:47 to play in the first half were the Saxons’ big plays. A 14-play, 80-yard scoring drive capped by Gusman’s seven-yard pass to Greg Hoshaw in the fourth quarter completed the scoring for Loara (1-2).
Kevin Brown’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Brian Fischbeck with 3:57 remaining drew El Modena (2-1) within a touchdown, and the Vanguards had one more chance to score when they took over at the Loara 41 with 1:57 left. Brown’s fourth-down pass into the end zone fell incomplete.
Adam Lancisero carried 14 times for a game-high 123 yards and scored the game first points on a 43-yard run that preceded Acosta’s kickoff return.
