Santa Monica 28, Glendale 20--Jamel Applewhite rushed for 114 yards in 14 carries and scored on a 44-yard run for the Vaqueros (1-1) in a nonconference defeat at Glendale High.
Joseph Kroells completed seven of 17 for 107 yards and scored on a one-yard sneak on fourth and goal to give Glendale a 20-14 lead with 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Steve Carballo returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown to give the Vaqueros a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Demetrius Patterson caught four passes for 75 yards for the Corsairs (1-1), including touchdown receptions of 29 and 34 yards in the fourth quarter. Patterson’s first scoring catch tied the game, 20-20, and Luis Thomas’ kick put the Corsairs ahead to stay with 12:16 remaining.
