America Online Inc. members will be able to get e-mail, news, stock quotes and other information over AT&T; Wireless Group Inc.’s Internet-ready phones starting today, AOL officials said. The AOL Wireless unit of the world’s largest Internet services company will deliver the information via AT&T;’s digital PocketNet service, which gives subscribers wireless access to the Internet. Later this fall, users will be able to check movie times and buy tickets through AOL Moviefone. AOL struck its deal with AT&T; in June, when AOL also began delivering similar services through Sprint PCS Internet-enabled phones. AOL, Yahoo Inc. and other Internet media companies are jockeying for position in the wireless world, according to industry analysts who said some companies are paying hefty amounts for premiere placements on carriers such as AT&T; Wireless and Sprint PCS.
