No More Bus Strikes
* The end of the paralyzing monthlong transit strike demands immediate action to prevent it from happening again. If new legislation is required to call for a court order to keep buses and rail service operating until contract differences between the MTA and the unions are resolved by compulsory arbitration, if necessary, so be it. Devastating hardship is suffered by more citizens (450,000-plus) during a transit strike than would be if police and/or firefighters went on strike.
There is enough blame to be shared by all parties involved who placed their own economic interests above what was good and just for the public, including the major media, which failed miserably to play the strike as the No. 1 continuous crisis in Los Angeles County. Look ashamed!
