TEAM TO BEAT

Ventura can’t be stopped because Tyler Ebell can’t be stopped. The senior running back has rushed for 1,785 yards and 24 touchdowns in five games, numbers that may help bring a league title, and maybe more.

CHALLENGERS

Buena is difficult to figure out. The Bulldogs looked awful in a season-opening 34-21 loss to Westlake and a 29-7 loss to Paso Robles last week. In between, they beat Rio Mesa, Camarillo and Newbury Park without much trouble. Who knows which team will show up Friday against Ventura.

THE REST

Dos Pueblos is 3-2 but has not played a challenging schedule. San Marcos and Santa Barbara have one victory each with little relief in sight.
