LAPD Has Tips for Safe Driving
The Los Angeles Police Department offers these tips for preventing traffic deaths:
* Slow down: Most accidents are caused by speeding. Drivers often treat the Valley’s wide boulevards as freeways, and exceed posted limits.
* Be informed: Learn about the dangers of drinking and driving, the proper use of child safety seats and ways children can be protected with helmets and safety pads when riding a bike, skates, a skateboard or scooter.
* Drive defensively: When the signal turns green, exercise caution before proceeding.
* Watch for people: Motorists should watch for children, the elderly and pedestrians who decide to cross a street without looking. Pedestrians should be equally observant--don’t just look at the cars, look at the driver’s eyes to make sure they see you.
To report complaints about speeding and other traffic hazards, call the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at (818) 756-9203.
