* The Southern Section has given a hardship waiver to pitcher Jason Urquidez of Royal, clearing the way for him to compete this season.
Urquidez transferred from Chaminade.
SWIMMING
* Alemany High senior Maureen Farrell, The Times’ Valley-Ventura County region girls’ swimmer of the year, has signed a letter of intent with Florida.
Farrell, Southern Section Division II champion in the 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle, also considered UCLA, Maryland and California.
* Cleveland High senior Amy Jones, The Times’ Valley-Ventura County region girls’ swimmer of the year in 1999, said she will compete at Princeton next year.
Jones won City Section championships in the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly last spring, and won section titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle as a sophomore.
She chose Princeton over Notre Dame, California and UCLA.
VOLLEYBALL
* Jamie Griffin of Simi Valley and Kasey Jungwirth of Camarillo, senior outside hitters for Cal State L.A., were selected All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. team.
