Grass Fire Interferes With Freeway Traffic

MISSION HILLS — A small grass fire scorched about half an acre near the junction of the San Diego and Ronald Reagan freeways Saturday afternoon, cloaking the roads in a haze of smoke.
The blaze, reported at 1:20 p.m., burned for 40 minutes before it was contained by firefighters, said Jim Wells, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. No injuries or structure damage were reported.
The California Highway Patrol closed one northbound lane on the San Diego Freeway for less than an hour to accommodate fire engines, CHP Officer Karen Faciane said.
Although it is still early in the season, the blaze was the second brush fire along the Ronald Reagan Freeway in two days. Friday afternoon, a one-acre fire burned for about an hour near Rocky Peak Road.
The origins of the fires, which are being investigated separately, were unknown, officials said.
