Sherman’s Sacrifice Tops Paraclete

Sarah Sherman’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning scored Jessica McIntosh and gave Village Christian High a 3-2 victory over Paraclete in an Alpha League game Thursday at Village Christian.
Village Christian (15-5, 4-1 in league play) pulled into a first-place tie with Paraclete (12-9, 4-1).
McIntosh pitched a three-hitter and drove in a run in the Crusaders’ two-run second inning.
Sara Gonzales struck out eight for Paraclete.
It was the 200th career coaching victory for Mike and Karen Vail.
Saugus 3, Hart 2--Julie Watson’s two-run triple made the score 3-0 in the second inning, and Jennifer McLarty and Megan Ivey combined to allow eight hits for the Centurions (15-10, 4-4) in a Foothill League upset at the Hart Complex.
Jaclyn Holden had two hits for Saugus, which had five hits.
Lindsey Kontra (7-2) was relieved by Amanda Fortune in the fourth for Hart (19-4, 3-1), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times. Sara Dean had two doubles, and Casey Pickard and Jocelyn Evans each drove in a run for the Indians.
Valencia 7, Canyon 4--The Vikings (14-8, 5-3) overcame a one-run deficit with a three-run sixth inning in a Foothill League game at Valencia.
Canyon (14-9, 4-4) scored three runs in the sixth on six errors and no hits to take a 4-3 lead.
Ashley Herrera had two hits and scored two runs for Valencia.
Newbury Park 3, Westlake 1--Oli Keohohou singled in two runs in the seventh inning to snap a tie and give the Panthers a Marmonte League upset at Westlake.
Chrissy Zappia (9-5) pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Kamala Kiffe had two hits and scored a run for Newbury Park (16-11, 7-4).
Erin Voeltz (15-8) pitched a seven-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Warriors (15-9, 7-4).
Simi Valley 1, Agoura 0--Freshman Mandy Kilionski struck out 13 and pitched a one-hitter and Casie Laughrey drove in a run with a fourth-inning single to lead Simi Valley (14-8, 6-4) to a Marmonte League victory over host Agoura (9-11, 4-6).
Crescenta Valley 3, Arcadia 0--Meredith Cervenka (23-1) threw a two-hitter, struck out eight and walked none for the Falcons (24-1, 8-0) in a Pacific League game at Montrose Park.
Mel McCauley, Jessica Crownover and Mandy Yaeger each had two hits for Crescenta Valley.
Glendale 4, Hoover 2--Danielle Soule’s two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning for the Dynamiters (11-8, 6-2) in a Pacific League game at Glendale.
Providence 12, Windward 2--Chrissy Koeth pitched a six-inning three-hitter with nine strikeouts and homered for host Providence (14-6, 9-0) in a Liberty League game at Olive Park.
Kennedy 8, Reseda 2--Ryane Montes and Kristin Cookson each had two hits for Kennedy (19-3, 10-0), which wrapped up the Valley Mission League title at Reseda.
Montes drove in two runs, Cookson one. Montes (15-3) also pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts.
Sylmar 5, Monroe 0--Cosondra Acosta (7-5) threw a one-hitter and went three for four for the Spartans (14-7, 7-3) in a Valley Mission League game at Monroe.
