Gas Pipe Rupture Interrupts Service

A gas company crew digging a trench ruptured an underground gas line Wednesday, interrupting service to about 10 homes in Piru.
The crew hit the pipe at the corner of Main Street and Highway 126 at about 10 a.m., but quickly stopped the leak, said Denise King, a spokeswoman for the Southern California Gas Co. Service was restored to the homes by about 3:30 p.m., King said.
The leak was not serious enough to warrant an evacuation.
“When the gas goes in the air it just dissipates,” King said. “They just made repairs to the plastic line and restored service within a couple of hours.”
