Horvat Makes Sacrifice and Hart Slips Past Saugus, 4-3

Marke Horvat moved to second on the Hart High career home run list Tuesday, but it was his seventh-inning sacrifice fly that provided the difference in a 4-3 Foothill League victory over Saugus at Hart.

Horvat’s two-run homer in the first inning was his 14th at Hart, moving him one ahead of his brother, Eric, now playing at Cal State Northridge.

Hart (19-4, 11-1) squandered a 3-0 lead before Horvat’s fly drove in Bill Susdorf. Brandon Montemayor had a solo home run for Hart.

Burroughs 10, Canyon 6--Mike Silva hit two home runs--his fifth and sixth of the season--for the Indians in a Foothill League victory at Canyon.

Silva hit a two-run home run in the fifth to cut Burroughs’ deficit to 6-4 and Jesse Perez followed with a solo shot.

Burroughs (14-9, 10-2) took a 7-6 lead in the sixth on Keith Leduc’s bases-loaded wild pitch and Silva followed with a three-run home run.

Perez had three hits and three runs batted in for Burroughs, which remained a game behind league-leading Hart.

Sylmar 14, Reseda 0--Jamie Mah had a two-run home run and a run-scoring triple for the Spartans in a Valley Mission League game called after five innings at Sylmar.

Eddie Camacho had three hits and drove in three runs for Sylmar (15-7, 8-3), and Fidelmar Jaimes had three hits and drove in two runs.

Ivan Lopez and Mike Garcia combined for a no-hitter. Lopez had four strikeouts and three walks in four innings. Garcia struck out the side in the fifth.

Granada Hills 15, Cleveland 2--Eddie Degerman hit a three-run home run in the fourth in a West Valley League game at Cleveland that was call after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Degerman (4-2) scattered nine hits for Granada Hills (13-9, 5-6) and Mike Seiser had three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs.

El Camino Real 7, Taft 4--Christian Hariot had three hits and scored three times, and Sean McElroy had three RBIs and scored once for the Conquistadores (16-6, 9-2) in a West Valley League victory at Taft.

Chatsworth 7, Birmingham 3--Brett Munson had a two-run triple, and Jared Halpert had two hits and drove in two runs for the Chancellors (20-1-1, 11-0) in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.

Raul Campos had two hits and drove in three runs for Birmingham (16-9, 5-6).

Chaminade 5, Alemany 4--Jimmy Milkovich had two hits, stole three bases and scored three runs, D.J. Milonas drove in three runs and the Eagles (16-5, 6-3) managed just three hits but benefited from 11 walks in a Mission League victory at Chaminade.

Crespi 9, Paraclete 1--Matt Wilson had a run-scoring double in the first inning and a two-run single in the second for Crespi (21-3-1) in a nonleague game at Paraclete.

Marshall Plouffe (9-1) struck out five, walked one and allowed two hits in five innings. Jason Brown had both hits for Paraclete (5-13). Reed Gacho drove in the Spirits’ run on a ground out in the fourth.

Crescenta Valley 8, Pasadena 5--Roy Spaulding had a three-run home run and a double for Crescenta Valley (14-7, 11-1) in a Pacific League game at Pasadena (6-10, 4-7).

St. Francis 14, Harvard-Westlake 8--Fernando Valenzuela hit two solo home runs and Richard Robbins drove in three runs for the Golden Knights (10-9-1, 3-5-1) in a Mission League victory at Brookside Park.

Loyola 9, Notre Dame 5--Mike Barron had a two-run homer in the fifth inning for host Notre Dame (13-9, 8-3) in a Mission League game.

Village Christian 2, L.A. Baptist 0--Jeremy Gonzales (9-0) recorded his third shutout and drove in a run in an Alpha League game at Tujunga Little League Complex.

Albert Quintana had two hits and scored a run for the Crusaders (13-4, 5-0).

Grace Brethren 13, Faith Baptist 1--The Lancers hit four home runs--two by Jackson Beauchamp--and Tim Thompson equaled a state record with his 51st career victory in a Heritage League game called after six innings at Faith Baptist.

Beauchamp had a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the second. Chris Beaty had a three-run homer and R.J. Blackwell had a solo homer.

Thompson (12-2) pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks. His victory total ties the mark set by Scott McGregor of El Segundo from 1969-72.

Campbell Hall 8, Crossroads 0--Michael Frost pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks for the Vikings (14-6, 7-0) in a Delphic League victory at Campbell Hall.

Nordhoff 7, Carpinteria 2--Trevor Weedon and J.J. Lagos had home runs for Nordhoff in a nonleague game at Carpinteria.

Calabasas 7, Santa Paula 2--Mike Grossman two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, and Tony Sulser added a double, single and a run batted in for the Coyotes in a Frontier League victory at Calabasas.
