Nine people crammed into a Ford Taurus were injured, one critically, Sunday when the 19-year-old driver lost control and slammed into a tree, authorities said.
Brandon Perdue of Canyon Country was northbound on Sand Canyon Road near Condor Ridge Road at 6:20 a.m. when his car swerved off the road, hit a tree and rolled onto its roof, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Several of Perdue’s passengers were not wearing seat belts. They were taken to local hospitals, where seven were in serious condition and one, a 26-year-old man, was in critical condition Sunday night, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Sonnenblick.
Perdue, who was slightly injured, was arrested after the accident on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics, authorities said.
