A Huntington Beach man who died while scuba diving near a Laguna Beach cove was identified Sunday as Nathan Thomas Roth, Orange County coroner’s officials said.
Roth, 51, went diving with friends at 8:30 p.m. Saturday but soon became separated from the group.
After a frantic search, friends found his body in the waters near Fisherman’s Cove and pulled him to shore.
After failed resuscitation efforts by paramedics, Roth was taken to South Coast Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Coroner’s officials said the precise cause of death is uncertain, pending further tests.
Lifeguard supervisor Ormand Tegland said lifeguards will meet with the deputy coroner today to inspect the gear Roth was using to see if it had any bearing on his death.
