Surgery Addresses Very Real Health Issues

Thank you for your fairly balanced article (“A Last Resort for the Obese,” March 6) on gastric bypass surgery. I had the surgery performed on Nov. 15 and have lost 65 pounds, with about 50 pounds to go. The surgery is not “the easy way out” and is generally decided upon not because someone wants to look better but because the patient has serious health issues (or is concerned about the long-term effect of obesity on his or her health). The surgery changes your lifestyle forever, and as the article points out, “food issues” must still be dealt with.
