Office to Promote Minority Work on Blue Line

The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development has won a contract to assist women- and minority-owned enterprises to win work on the Los Angeles to Pasadena Metro Blue Line.
The outreach program will be modeled on the Mayor’s Minority Business Opportunity Committee, which performs a similar function for the public and private sector. MBOC also set up a similar outreach program for the massive $2-billion Alameda Corridor project.
Under the new contract, the mayor’s Office of Economic Development will receive city funding to match qualified women and minority subcontractors with big prime contractors on the $350-million project, which runs through communities that are 51% Latino.
An initial $20-million contract for the Chinatown portion of the project has already been awarded, with a goal to pass 20% of subcontracting dollars to certified women- and minority-owned enterprises. Another portion of the project--the $220-million Arroyo Seco stretch--has gone to bid.
Entrepreneurs interested in the outreach program can contact MBOC at (213) 847-6200 or the outreach coordinator at (310) 816-6869.
