Birmingham Lands Top-Notch Hurdler

McKenzie Evans, who finished seventh in the girls’ 300-meter low hurdles in the Class 4A final of the Missouri state championships last May, has transferred to Birmingham High.
Evans, a junior, clocked 46.56 in the state final for Hazelwood East and has a best in the low 45-second range, Birmingham Coach Scott King said.
Evans moved to California last summer and attended Dorsey before transferring to Birmingham.
FOOTBALL
* Two-way lineman Rusty Colburn of Crescenta Valley has committed to Boise State.
Colburn helped the Falcons to a share of the Pacific League title last season. He was the league’s lineman of the year and a second-team All-Valley selection by The Times.
* Coach Ray DeShane, who started the program at Lancaster in 1995, has resigned. Lancaster, which first played varsity in 1997, was 16-16-1 under DeShane and finished second in the Golden League the last two seasons.
* Running back Rodney Woods of Littlerock has committed to Fresno State.
Woods rushed for 1,510 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, when he was selected to The Times’ All-Valley team.
SOCCER
* Becca Gould, a senior midfielder at Hart, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.
