Diane Haithman’s article describes the new Smithsonian museum as “a long-overdue acknowledgment of Native Americans in the heart of the nation’s capital” (“A Legacy Reclaimed,” Jan. 9). Pretty ironic from a city whose professional football team is named the Redskins, an obviously demeaning stereotype, and the logo on their helmets features a profile of “The Red Man.”
I’ve yet to hear a solid explanation for why the team continues to fly this banner, or for that matter why the ridiculous “tomahawk chop” is still a cheer of choice in many of our nation’s ballparks.
