A Mountain of Support in Palm Springs
Thanks so much for the article about Palm Springs life (“Up Against the Wall, Palm Springs Trendies!,” by Ann Japenga, Jan. 16).
When I was a little girl, my mom and I would drive out to Palm Springs from Whittier whenever she and my dad got mad at each other. From where we stayed on North Palm Canyon, I always felt like the mountain was supporting me. Between the ages of 4 and 8, I learned to love and rely on that “escarpment.”
Although I am 40 now (and my parents get along fine now, by the way), I still have a sense of the mountain as being part of my family. I live in the high desert, and as I drive into the low desert on Highway 62, the entire mountain faces me from the other side of the valley, and I still get a sense of peace from it.
