The Newport-Mesa Unified school board laid the groundwork Tuesday night for an oversight committee that would ensure that the funds raised to repair the district’s schools are spent properly. Officials are considering asking voters to approve a bond measure later this year to raise money for the district. Although no official decisions have been made, the oversight committee is expected to involve a citizens’ review panel. Specifics will be presented at the Feb. 22 study session.
