Innocent Pleas Made in Pan Am Bombing

Two Libyans accused of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988 pleaded innocent at a hearing in Edinburgh, Scotland, as both sides agreed to speed up a trial that has faced repeated delays. The Scottish High Court’s acceptance of the pleas made on behalf of Abdel Basset Ali Megrahi and Lamen Khalifa Fhimah--who are in custody in the Netherlands--was an indication that all parties are eager to see the trial begin May 3 as scheduled. The suspects, allegedly Libyan agents, were surrendered for trial in April. The jet exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, on Dec. 21, 1988, killing 270 people.
