Gotcha Glacier Luring Retailers, Planning March Groundbreaking

Backers of the planned Gotcha Glacier say they now have 90% of the retail space filled for the long-stalled project.
The latest to sign on is Active Ride Shop, an Ontario-based snowboard and skateboard retailer. The $130-million Gotcha Glacier, which is supposed to be built next to Edison International Field, would include indoor snowboard, skateboarding and surfing as well an ice rink and a rock-climbing wall. It would also have stores, restaurants, arcades and a children’s snow play area.
San Juan Capistrano-based Glacier of Anaheim LLC signed its first major tenant, Sport Chalet Inc. in September. In October, it signed Bally Total Fitness to operate a 28,000-square-foot gym at the site.
Chief Executive Brad Kinney said recently a financial commitment has been signed but loan documents must still be finalized.
Groundbreaking is now tentatively scheduled for March, he said.
