Irish Defense Gets a Boost

The Fiesta Bowl injury situation changed slightly Thursday, when Notre Dame defensive back Shane Walton was cleared to play in the game. He had broken his forearm in the second-to-last game of the season against Rutgers. In addition, Irish tight end Jabari Holloway was declared out of the game because of the knee ligament injury he suffered in the same Rutgers game. Also, backup defensive secondary player Gerome Sapp was not expected to play because of a severely sprained ankle. Notre Dame’s opponent, Oregon State, has no injured players.
