Rustlers Add to Collection of Volleyball Titles

Golden West won its eighth consecutive community college state title in women’s volleyball, rallying to defeat Long Beach, 13-15, 8-15, 15-12, 15-13, 15-11, Sunday at San Joaquin Delta.
Golden West (27-0) has won 92 consecutive matches, 28 in the postseason.
The Rustlers dropped the first two games of the championship, but fought back to take the final three, led by Grace Boyd, who had 18 kills and six digs. Sarah Boogaard had 18 digs and 15 kills for Golden West, and Amanda Siler had 45 assists.
Siler, Boogaard and Kinsey Ross, who had 19 digs, were selected to the all-tournament team. Long Beach’s Julian Guimares, who had 27 kills and eight digs, was named MVP. Long Beach finished 22-2.
