Secret Beetle

So why was an electric Beetle built under a “hush-hush” contract with Volkswagen (“Volkswagen Beetle Lovers Might Get a Charge Out of This One,” Aug. 2)?

Perhaps because so many people would have been clamoring to get their hands on one. (The new Bug has always looked like it should have been electric.)

It is extremely frustrating the auto companies continue to drag their feet in this market. Come on, guys, it’s supposed to be the new millennium. Why must we still drive around with internal-combustion engines?
