The dilapidated, empty mobile homes that used to sit on the Treasure Island site are nearly all gone, cleared away in preparation for construction of a $150-million resort.
Phoenix-based Athens Group, which is developing the site, says its resort will match the area’s oceanfront beauty.
But South Laguna residents are preparing for what they say will be a construction nightmare.
“I think we’re all kind of bracing for what we considered excessive grading of the site,” said Ginger Osborne, president of the South Laguna Civic Assn.
“We’re going to have traffic, dirt and exhaust from the [construction] trucks. I would imagine a lot of people are dreading the start of this project.”
