Man Killed Outside Busy Pool Hall

Early morning gunfire outside a crowded Santa Ana pool hall scattered patrons and left a 27-year-old man dead early Saturday in a slaying that has detectives baffled.
Police discovered the body of Miguel Orco Montes in ivy by a parking lot outside Hidalgo Pool Hall on West 4th Street, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Raul Luna. Montes was shot several times in the head and chest.
Detectives were unable to find any witnesses to the 2:10 a.m. shooting, he said. Patrons told police they saw Montes drinking earlier in the day. As Montes left the bar, customers inside heard several gunshots and fled the scene, Luna said.
Luna said investigators spent hours rummaging through the ivy with metal detectors, hunting for clues. Detectives have no leads but have ruled out that the killing was gang-related.
Police urged anyone with information to call Sgt. Luna at (714) 245-8715.
