Stamps.com Hires Former Canon Exec

* Stamps.com, the Santa Monica-based provider of Internet mailing and shipping services, has named former Canon Inc. executive Peter Bergman as executive vice president and general manager of the company’s small-business strategic business unit. The unit is one of three recently created by the company. The others are enterprise and e-commerce strategic business units. Bergman will manage revenue, sales and marketing and operations for the small-business unit, which targets companies with fewer than 100 employees.

* Thousand Oaks-based HomeStore.com Inc., an Internet-based home and real estate site, has appointed Allan Merrill president of its HomeBuilder.com unit, an online site for new-home buying and building. Merrill comes to HomeStore.com after a 13-year tenure with investment banking firm Warburg Dillon Read, where most recently he served as co-head of the Global Resources Group, overseeing several sectors, including construction and building materials.
