Paraclete has struggled without pitcher Matt Parris, who transferred to Highland and is 4-1 for the Golden League-leading Bulldogs.

But pitcher Jason Brown is helping fill the void at Paraclete.

The senior has 27 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings and a 2.93 ERA for the Spirits (2-7).

Brown (2-1), who has issued six walks, has been slower to succeed at the plate.

He batted .486 last season, but is at .350. He has drawn nine walks, boosting his on-base percentage to .552.
