With a big game against Division I power Foothill only five days away, Camarillo was going to spend practice Monday hitting live against its ace Kathryn Nevard, the finest pitcher Ventura County has to offer.
But both catchers, including starter Nikki Sutton, who was on a recruiting trip to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, were absent.
“So we went bowling,” Coach Miki Mangan said.
Last season, Mangan, a former All-Southern Section catcher for Camarillo, would have gladly filled in for her missing catchers.
But when you’re five months pregnant, Mangan would rather . . . roll a 10-pound ball down a hardwood lane.
And why not? She’s good at it.
Mangan bowled a 174 and bested the runner-up by 37 pins.
