The City Council approved two proclamations naming April 8-15 as Record-a-Thon Week and April 9-15 as Boys and Girls Week at its meeting Tuesday night.
Record-a-Thon week is sponsored by Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, a New Jersey-based nonprofit group that provides recordings of academic textbooks for students in kindergarten through graduate school. The week is meant to encourage residents to help in recording books for people who have visual or other impairments that make it difficult to read.
The two Boys & Girls clubs in Fullerton are trying to raise awareness about the sponsoring nonprofit organization and its work for young people. The Boys & Girls clubs provide services to the community ranging from literacy instruction to substance abuse counseling.
